What percent of adult doe "should" be bred?

What are some reasons that they wouldn't be pregnant?

PGC opens roadkilled doe from February thru May to count fetues. The percent of adult doe (greater than 1 year old) bred varies thru the years from about 87% to 92%. Just wondering why this is and if it's to be expected or can be improved.

Imo, A straight "yes or no" fetus count doesn't normally gather enough info to determin insight on specific factors for individual animals.

Perhaps I should have cited the following:

Embryos per adult doe 1.72-1.80

Percent fawns bred 14-28%
Embryos per fawn doe 1.13-1.25

87-92% pregnancy rate is excellent. Nothing needed to be improved on.

If you have 90-95% of 2 1/2 year-old does with fetus, that's great. Fetal counts of 1.72-1.80 are also excellent. 14-28% bred fawns is about average.

Reduced percentages of bred 2 1/2+ does generally reflects a problem--most often over-population or some sort of severe stress.
