Ive made 4 sits so far over the last few days and I will say this: these things are harder to call in and kill than turkeys are! I had 2 come loping in this morning to 35 yards but it was too thick to shoot. Just 3 more steps, thats all I needed. Well it finally took them and one step before it cleared it caught my wind and was GONE. Im probably gonna try again in the morning.
 
Ive got a lot to learn about calling these things! I watched youtube videos all day yesterday and tried some of those calling sequences this morning and it worked so I need to fine tune some more.

Nope! Not me!
I'm still not getting more than 6' from the fireplace!
After 43 years of working outside in all kinds of weather (both on land AND water), outside, cold weather activities hold no alure for me!
For those of you that feel the need and are able, I say Good Luck and "give'm hell - go for it!" LOL! You'll be able to find this old fat man warm inside and probably enjoying a warm (warming?) adult beverage! LOL!

I've gone out for stalk hunts almost daily during this storm. While I see tons of new tracks, they coyotes are still nocturnal. At least I'm getting my exercise "steps" in each day. ;o)
 
No luck this morning. I saw one set of cat tracks in the fresh snow but couldnt get it to come back for a look.
 
As a new predator hunter, I have to say if you aren't out in this you are missing out. Breeding season plus this snow and cold weather. I have made 5 sets so far and killed on 4 of those. Would have been a lot more but have to pay the bills and work is getting in the way. I am lucky though and have multiple farms I can now coyote only hunt on so I have been splitting them up and if I call on one farm I won't go back to that farm for at least 2 weeks

I am running a MFK foxpro x24. Most of the sets I stick with a prey distress sound. Like cagie cottontail, Mrs mc cottontail, and mfk cotton bomb, mostly because if there is a bobcat in the area I want to shoot it. I been running those. On a couple of sets where I knew they was coyotes in the area I started out with a couple of mfk lonely lil B howls, waited a few minutes then run either mfk humpty bumpty, mfk pound town, or mfk table scraps. The x24 volume goes to 40. I usually start out at 20 on volume, then if nothing within a few minutes I start cranking it up. If they can't hear your call then they aren't gonna come. I run the cagie cottontail the other day starting out and for 2 minutes I ran it at 20 cranked it up to 35 and 1 minutes later I had a coyote on the ground 20 yards from the call. Like I said though I am just getting started. Some good resources I have found is foxpro YouTube channel and reading wise I have read
Micheal huffs the master coyote hunter and his understanding coyotes a comprehensive guide for coyote hunters. Both was very informative.
 
5 below this morning when I made my first set of the year. No sign of anything moving except crows. A few places where turkeys have been scratching for acorns.
