Who shoots a 7mm-08

I'm considering one for my next rifle. I'm in the need for a light rifle. Considered a .260 but theres not a good selection of factory loads. Want kind of rifle(brand) is your 7mm-08. I'm thinking about a Browning micro hunter, or Remington model 7. Thanks.........

I'm a 7mm-08 nut,really.
Two customs,a Mauser Varmint,a Remington 788 20" tube.
A Tikka Whitetail Hunter and a Remington 7600 uncataloged. Next I want one in a pistol.
Don't know why but my 788 kicks like a mule but it was a kicker before when it was a .243,I know it's the design of the stock, that will be a project at a later date.
All the others are awesome,the Tikka has a 22" tube and weighs in at about 7lbs.

I've got a 7-08 Rem 700 mountain rifle....it is like a feather until you hit the trigger. Hornady light magnum factory loads shoot real well in it, but don't let any body tell ya they don't kick haha.

I've been shooting a Remington 700 in 7mm-08 since 1995. If I were to buy another one it would probably be the Browning.

I don't see a need to change so when I do buy another rifle it'll be another 7-08.

Factory ammo choices for the 7mm-08 are not very good. You will be limited to certain bullets and weights.

If you don't reload, the 308 is a better choice IMO.

I have a Kimber 84M Montana in .308. Its about the lightest gun available unless you want to spend big bucks. I believe the 7mm08 version weighs 5.5 lbs without scope. Recoil isnt bad with my .308, but muzzle flip is noticeable. If you reload I would go with a 260, IMO it gives away nothing to a 7mm08 with bullets up to 140 gr, yet gives you more versatility with the lower 90-100 gr bullet weights. Model70man has a Browning Micro .308 that is scary accurate.

Would this be a suitable caliber for a 11 yr old. She has been shooting a 243 for a few years. The next rifle I purchase, I would like for her to be able to shoot it as well.

The 7-08 with 120gr Remington Core-Lokts should be just fine for an 11 year old. You can choose from 140 TSX bullets, Accubonds, Ballistic tips and Partitions in factory ammo also. Some of it gets expensive but you can just use these for actual hunting instead of just range rounds.

I have 3 7-08's and you cannot go wrong with one. Good luck.

Yes I would say. After rasing 3 boys that all started with a .308 ,I wish I would have started them all with the 7mm-08 now that Grandkids are up and coming thats what they are going to start with. My Tikka and the the 7600 with 140's have hardly no kick unlike the 788. And the Varmint feels like shooting a pop gun with 120's.

I've shot a Mod.7 in 7mm-08 and for a kid I'd shy away from it,it did shoot really good but the recoil is about the same as my 788.

Nice thing about the 7mm08 to is if ya want it's a good Elk gun at the right distance. I have a buddy that use's his for Elk and Moose. It's a Rem mountian rifle.

OK! Stop screaming! Some of you long action and magnum lovers are saying your handloads will beat the 7mm-08 loads! Not by much! Even with magnum and long action hot loads, it is still difficult to beat the 7mm-08 by one inch at 300 yards!
For example; we are trying to show is that 7mm-08 handloads will match 7mm Remington mag factory loads. If the gun story writers say the 7mm rem mag will handle moose and bears with factory ammo, the 7mm-08 will do the same with handloads. Now for the real truth. Most factory loads don't measure up to the claimed FPS. Yes! An 7mm rem mag handloaded with data from 35 years ago will smoke about any hunting rifle cartridge.
I love the 7 mag, but the 7mm-08 made me a better shooter. I normally won't take a shot beyond 400 yards. I can shoot up 3 boxes at the range with no blue shoulder. At 100 yards I can shoot the teeth off a plastic fork one at a time. I can't do this with my 7 mag. I use the 7mm-08 year around shooting varmints, pronghorns, deer, elk, and anything in season. This has made me a better shooter and hunter.

You are comparing apples to oranges. BC has alot to do with your numbers. Granted, the 7mm-08 is a good cartridge, BT bullets from the other listed calibers would have significantly different and better numbers, especially if they were handloaded as well.

The only really bad thing, if you want to call it that, about the 7mm-08 is stores generally only carry 2 to 3 different types of bullets and they are generally in the 140 gr. range. The same goes for the 260.

But i believe this little rem. shoots a tad better.No kick either

They should be a great gun. They're basically a twin to the 7x57 Mauser which has had great success over the years as both a big game and military rifle. I'm found of that cartridge as it was one of my first high powered rifles. The 7-08 has a lot more brass available being a member of the 308, 30-06 family.

I have two. A model 7 and an encore. Ive never had a cartridge perform like it does on whitetail deer. Ive never shot any other animal with so i dont know about that. Needless to say im a fan.

our younger son has been shooting a 7mm-08(savage mod. 11) since he was 12 or 13. it has accounted for alot of deer. it's the best light recoil youth caliber made( my opinion)for deer.
