Whiteville Buck (Lefty)

We were able to get a new lease in Whiteville this year. We have pictures of some good deer but do seem to have some sort of genetics issue. Most every buck has something wrong with their left antler. We have spikes with only the right antler, a nice mature buck with five good points on the right and a spike on the left and several other issues with the left side. I shot this one on Sunday chasing a yearling doe in a thicket. We have a thousand photos of him and my brother had named him lefty.

Well tried to add a photo, guess I will have to go back and read some instructions on how to make that happen.

Nothing genetic, just damage to one antler.

Does the left side of the deer taste worse than the right?

Does seem odd, but I guess it's a possible coincidence. I would think that it's also a possible genetic issue (e.g. I know some properties where having no brow tines, or having "crab claw" racks, seems to be pervasive).

I killed an olllllld deer like that once and grabbed the spike side to pull him up into the truckbed; horn broke plum off at the skull. There was a large void in the pedicle area full of puss and goo as well as on the end of the antler. Looked like he had an abscess or something.
