White crappie?

Yep. 5-6 dorsal spines on white, 7-8 on black.

Thanks. Crappies are usually just a by-catch for me and they all eat the same. This one qualifies for TARP and I figure I'll start the year out right with a certificate. I want to make sure I report it correctly.

Looks like 100% black crappie to me. I had a half dozen of both in my cooler last weekend.

It's a black crappie. As SES noted, they have 7-8 DORSAL spines. Whites have 5 or 6. Congrats on the TARP!

Definitely not a white crappie. Looks like a black crappie. However, quite possible it's a black nose crappie if you caught it out of a pond.
