First I must mention, yesterday there were two yearlings in the backyard feeding on acorns for a little while during the middle of the day. I watched em from the kitchen window. Good sign....
Today I was shooting my bow at 20 yards and looked back in the field past the property line, and there were 6 or 7 hens walking by. Then when I went to move my target out to 30 yards, I found a fresh dust bowl. Not a deer scrape or a turkey scratch, but a bowl where a turkey had dug into the ground a couple inches to get in the dust. It is 30 yards from my back door. My goal is to kill one deer with a bow in my back yard, but heck I will gladly shoot a turkey too since you can now shoot your bag limit during archery season. Now when season opens and I can't go on a full hunting trip, I will set up in the back yard for a close 10-20 yard shot and won't forget to bring my turkey call just in case.
