I need advice on which pea to plant.Iron clay or pink eyed purple hull? Which one do you like the best? and How well did they work for you? I heard the purple hulls stand up well to browsing.
Are they for you or for the deer RidgeRunner? I assume you b/c you said you heard they stood up to browsing pretty good. We planted some purple hull peas in our garden at our cabin a couple of weeks ago, but I dont expect to get anything from them. The deer will demolish them before we have a chance at all. They LOVE them things more than we ever could. We planted them several years ago and the deer got into them pretty bad...Almost overnight.
It will probably all come down to how you maintain them. If they are at your home, obviously you will get more than someone like me....Ours is at our cabin an hour away that I just go to on the weekends Thursday-Sunday. Good Luck with it regardless!
I've got 10 acres of food plots. I thought I'd plant about 3 acres worth of peas, scattered around through all the plots. We got a pretty good stand of clover and Brassica growing in a our plots right now,we just need something to fill in the thin areas. The reason I'm thinking peas, I was told if the deer eat the flowers of the top, they'll continue to flower and eventually make a pod.

I wish I had the available acreage to plant peas. I had a LabLab plot a few years ago that was not quite 1/4 acre, you can guess what happened! LOL! I stick to clovers and brassicas with the available land I have.
I don't mind if they eat them, thats why I'm planting it. I just heard that they would re flower after the tops were browsed off of them. That means they should last longer than soybean, which don't re flower.
