Good morning gentlemen. Im in the market for a new trail camera. I have several bushnells and are not impressed with them, so I am checking to see whats out there that for the money is well worth trying. Thanks for any recommendations.
 
For under $200, either of three will do you right: Covert "MP8 Black", "Extreme HD60" black flash and Browning "Dark Ops". For $500 and many many seasons of flawless performance, Reconyx HC 600 Black Flash. Regardless of which route you go, get the Black Flash (a.k.a. No Glow) model. I'd purchase from Amazon or eBay for the best price. Good luck with your choice.
 
I have about a dozen Moultrie 990i and 880i cams. With the exception of one of them where the date is stuck, they've all worked really well for me.

I've been running covert cameras for years with absolutely no problems. To me, the covers night pictures are better than the browning dark ops. The covert can be bought for $120

I got one of the Tasco's last year. It was on sale at Walmart for like $40. It takes about 1,500 pictures over 3 weeks. I have to replace the batteries about every 2 or 3 months, but for $40 you can't beat it! I have had 2 Moultrie's for a few years now, and have had no problems out of them.

I bought 2 of the Primo's Truth cams last year and they were awful! I ended up taking them back and getting my money back.
 
with regard to the blackout cams, i agree thats what you want, but i've had success buying the regular infareds etc, for way cheaper andthen making them blackouts with medium grade window tinting tape from home depot.

I run the 990i's and have no complaints about them. I think they're a pretty good value.

I have heard of others doing this back in the day when black flash cams first came out. Do you have any examples of the photos that were took with said cameras? Just wondering how the pics came out and if the additional tint affected the overall quality very much.
 
Hot being a very patient person Ive looked all day for a place that carries covert cameras and have come up with a goose egg. I have decided to go with the moultrie 880i and an A-5. I got both on sale paying $220 for both. All of my other cameras are a blackout type camera and so Im thinking about trying the tint trick and see if that works. If you have ever tried this could you post a picture so i can see what the pictures look like. Thanks
 
Some probably won't believe it, but I've been blown away by the HD video quality from my Stealth G42NG. I'm going to post some sample videos in the trail cam forum. It's the best cam I've ever used in the $120 price range, and that includes Covert MP8 Black and Browning Dark Ops.

I am so sick of spooking deer with red IR flash that I'm now only using my red IR flash cams during daylight hours only. I need to look into covering the flash to see if that helps.
 
I have 2 Stealth STC P6 cameras, and they are ok, but do not have a very good trigger range. Anything over 25-30 feet won't set it off.
 
Stealth P-series cams are in a different class and price point than the G-series cams. One difference is the detection system. The G-series has Stealth's Multi-Zone technology and the P-series does not. That may explain your issue with detection range. The G42 has a very respectable detection range and black flash range. Trailcampro tested it last year and consistently had detection ranges around 60 feet. It is a sweet little camera, but I think Stealth has brand perception issues for putting out a lot of junk cam in recent years.
 
I love my Browning Spec Ops. When i buy my next one it will be a Browning Dark Ops. My Spec Ops, for the money, is the best I have saw so far. Day and night pics are great, decent trigger time and batteries last forever.
