I have a chance to get in on a draw hunt with a group for Bear/Boar in the Tellico area. Never hunted either as of yet and was thinking of giving it a try.

Sold my 300wsm, so now it is between a Ruger 25-06 bolt action w/ scope or Winchester 94 lever action in 32 win. spcl. with iron sights.... for a shooter. What are you guys thoughts?

I am sure I'm possibly gambling with my life, but I am leaning towards the Win 94 with iron sights and 170gr bullets for possibly up close and personal hunting in the woods around Tellico.

Neither ideal. 25-06 is not meant for close quarters and is only available in low sectional density bullets. 32 winchester is probably lacks necessary foot pounds for the largest of black bear. You may want to borrow a rifle. A 444 marlin or 45/70 gov. In a short lever gun should be perfect. Tellico is nasty thick.

Well if I used the Win 94 / 32win spcl, I have 170gr cor-loks but was looking at the Hornady LeverEvolution 165gr bullets....

But alas I have a friend with a .444 I could probably borrow.

Bring a 357 Mag or 44 Mag to carry on your hip and you will be fine. Tellico has some very rough terrain. That 32 Win. Special will be a pleasure to tote around in the mountains.

The only sidearm I own is my carry pistol.... 1911 .45acp.

I have finished off a wounded hog with my 32 Win Special, and it did just fine. Also killed my largest racked and 2nd biggest bodied deer with it as well. I would not hesitate to take mine on a bear/boar hunt, in fact it would be in the top 2 of my 8 rifles for that task, my 358 win would work well in that role as well.

It should be a close range affair on that hunt and the 32 Winchester will shine. The 25-06 wouldn't spook me either. Shoot stuff where it counts and it will die.

Thanks for the advice guys..... should I be lucky enough to get drawn.... me and that old Winchester 94 are going to try to make some memories!!!

It would be a simple choice for me. Whichever has the shortest overall length. . Tellico is tuff hunting. Your shots will be anywhere from close to too close! At the ranges you will experience there a well constructed bullet from the 32 will be plenty for the bear or boar you will encounter.
