I seen a post on here before about some Barnes muzzleloader bullets and having better luck with pass throughs. I'm looking to get away from these power belts.

Anyone use any, 250 or 290gr?

I was looking at the 290gr t-ez.

What's the difference between the T-ez and Tmz?

One of them is boat tail and the other isn't. The tez is supposed to load easier

So the difference between the T-EZ and TMZ is the TMZ is a boat tail design. I used to use the Federal Barnes Expanders in my slug gun before federal and Barnes stopped pairing up. They used the TMZ bullets and those things are devastating. Like I said this is out of a slug gun but still the same bullet. Deer are DRT if you do your part.

I use Barnes and also shockwave 300 grain in shockwave. I have switched or trying new rounds sine I can't get shock waves. I don't think Thompson have went back into the muzzle load bullets.

Love my Barnes T-ez 250 grain.
The TEZ is flat based while the TMZ is a boattail base, meaning it has a slight indent to it.

Barnes T-MZ with yellow sabot is a boat tail design... shot great, but my gun has a tight bore and I couldnt hardly seat a second shot. Very tight even down a clean bore.

Barnes T-EZ with the blue sabot is a flat base design...shoots great. Easier to load, still snug, but you can load a second or third time.

Have shot 250gr with 120gr Triple-7 and have been very pleased with the performance.

While Im planning to try Blackhorn 209 powder...I do Not plan to change from the Barnes T-EZ bullet...very pleased with performance.

Switched from powerbelts many, many years ago....no regrets.

Parker Match Hunter .45 cal 300gr. Smokeless muzzleloader. Sabots are the cause for inconsistency and inaccuracy.

I've been thoroughly pleased with the expander- 250 grain big ole honking hollow point. Shoots better than me and wrecks deer.

I don't think you can go wrong with anything Barnes

I shot the 250 gr TEZ for a few seasons. Very accurate out of my CVA Optima.

This is what I shoot ...if it ain't broke don't fix it .

Using 240 grain XTP mags over 115 grains of triple 7. Been a great load for my accura, and very effective on deer from close range on out to about 200 yards. I think the load would do fine further out, but that's about the limits for our farm.

I have used Powerbelts, Hornady, TC encore, and Barnes. The PBs and Hornady were junk at least the ones I used. The TC encores were good, if you got the bonded bullets.

I went to Barnes Expanders (250 gr) and never looked back.

That being said, I now have a smokeless conversion and use that, but I sight in the old smoke pole too just in case I am in somewhere, I don't need the extra range and feel like toting it.

I've never had one go more than 50 with the power belts, but absolutely no blood and the last one was a nice 8pt(catoosa) I shot at 10yds he only went 40yds and piled up but I like to never found him out was so thick. Been using them since then came out, ready to try something else.

Well I have killed a lot of deer with several muzzle loader bullets over the years, PB have never let me down or a tracking job that I couldn't throw a rock as far. While I might not use them much anymore if I had to pick 1 bullet for a cva rifle it would be a 295g PB. I shoot 50 cal smokeless most of the time and have shot deer to 267 steps before with a SST, PB shoot like a brick and knock deer down like a brick. Shockwave have shocked me by not expanding and passing thru making a runner, distance you want or need to shoot should influence which bullet to use. At least in my case that's what I do, will shoot a 300g SST on my first hunt at Catoosa a little later this month, will shoot a wolf when mzl opens in November with a 240g hollow point with some blackthorn pushing it. I was taught to shoot deer with a bow when I started and never thought I needed to learn different, never cared if there were 2 holes or 1 but with 1 hole I had more bang flops then the 2 holers.

I killed a truckload of deer with Powerbelts. They load easy, shoot straight and the deer usually died within sight. But I am wise enough to know eventually you get a tough deer that runs off and with no blood trail you may or may not find it. That's why I changed to Expanders. Stevie Wonder can blood trail deer shot with them.
