Silver queen used to be my favorite. Seems the last couple of years what I've bought from the Amish hasn't been as good for some reason.
I can tell you why… because it's probably field corn.. my Sunday school teacher came upon a buggy last spring, stopped in the middle of the road.. he sat there a minute wondering what was going on.. a few seconds later.. here's comes a Amish out of some farmers cornfield..,with all the roastneers he could carry.. flat out stealing.. and I promise you, he sat up on the side of the road selling silver queen..

They pick it too early!
Silver queen is all water till it starts to get starchy, almost too late is when it's best!

pretty much. the time window between milk and dough stage is really narrow. peaches and cream when the silk turns its ready.

i like to grow silver queen because the coons dont prefer it like peaches.

Too bad I didn't remember this about ambrosia when we were at the nursery, don't think they had it though. They were out of peaches and cream on Saturday, so I opted for bodacious. Similar days to harvest. Planted yesterday, first try, guess we will see.

The Amish around me pick silver queen too early, it's too watery and not meaty. I like silver queen best in late starchy stage!

Peaches and cream is a close second

On the other hand hickory king and truckers favorite are really good no -sweet corns also

Of course though POPCORN is a mainstay around here.
