Where to start looking

I see that south-central TN has more deer HARVESTED than most other areas. Is that because there are more deer or more deer hunters? What about east TN? Could I find a tract of land with a decent number of deer on it? Are there some counties better than others within an hour and a half of Manchester? Just looking for folks' opinions based on personal experience. Thanks

I would look north of Manchester.

If you're in Manchester you are in a good area. you could really go any direction other than East, but West or some variant of West (NW, SW,) would be your best bet IMO.

However it could be tough to get permission or Lease, so buying would be your best bet and of course land in MId TN is more expensive.

Stop in at a local TWRA office and tell them what you are up to and ask to see their stats from last year.

Thanks Randy. I am a couple weeks away from moving to the Manchester area so I can't go by but I did call today. I left a voice mail. Maybe I'll hear back tomorrow. I felt like TWRA would be a good place to start.

Manchester has a lot of public land in the mountains but you have to walk and you have to hunt it. A lot of good deer if you put in the work. Check out bear hollow

Probably lots of land, but the east side of the state does not have the herd that Middle and West TN have. it is more hilly, so can be harder to hunt from a physical standpoint.
