does anyone know where to get live shad around columbia, or anywhere around there? i have been looking for a while just not having any luck finding them. might be a dumb question i just havent found any. or a good bait shop? thanks!

I don't know of anywhere that sells live shad. They're really hard to keep alive for any extended period of time.Shiners and regular minnows are the only ones I know of available at most bait shops.

if you have a cast net then throw it in the riffles in the duck river, you are sure to get some good bait fish that way. not sure how the shad population is on the duck but I imagine it's probably got some gizzard shad.

It's really pretty easy to throw a cast net.You should get it down in a trip or 2 especially if you can get someone to show you properly first. Start off with a smaller net till you get the hang if it. On the river anywhere you can find a creek washing in to the river is generally a good spot for bait.

well im always up for trying new techniques like they say practice makes perfect! atleast i can say i tried haha.

Yeah once you get the hang of it it's easy. Problem I have is the net getting a bit tangled sometimes without my knowing. Then it fails to open and I wonder what went wrong... I learned that it's most often a tangle rather than me not throwing it right. They do have to be cared for - mine needs a little bit of repairs right now but it still catches fish.
