Ok I have narrowed everything down to a couple different choices.

Horsepower will be either a 25 or 30 depending on what is avaliable.

I am leaning heavily towards Yamaha but would entertain a Mercury if the price difference was enough to warrent it.

Electric start, tiller steering, long shaft and four stroke.

I called the only local place that carries Yamaha and a 40 horse was pushing $8,000 and if that is normal I will definately be going with a 25.

So, where to buy???
Rather not drive any farther than about 3 or 4 hours but again, money changes everything. :)

Located in extreme NorthWest TN.
3 hours from Memphis and Nashville.

Thanks!!

SOUNDS HIGH $6100 FOR A TILLER AND $6400 FOR REMOTE STEERING ARE MRP.IF ITS A REMOTE STEERING THE CONTROLS DO NOT COME WITH THE MOTOR AND INSTALLION WILL BE EXTRA. I WAS QUOTED $8300 INSTALLED AND OUT THE DOOR FOR A 60 HP YAMAHA. CHECK THE YAMAHA WEB SITE FOR REBATES. SOUNDS LIKE YOUR DEALER THINKS HE'S THE ONLY GAME IN TOWN.THIS TIME YEAR DEALER SOULD BE OFFERING DEALS

Ruger I have bought two mercury outboards in the last few years and got first one at Bass Pro in Memphis and second at Bass Pro in Nashville. Checked all over West Tn And KY and none of the regular dealers were closer than $400-500.It was worth my drive. I would definitely check with them if you go Merc.

A 25 hp merc is the same motor as a 25 hp Tohatsu. The tohatsu is significantly less.

I bought my Yamaha off of ebay with free shipping to my front door. Local stores couldn't come with in $300. Ebay was a no brainer choice for me.

Saw on the nashville craigslist that c@o in Dickson has new forty horse etech full warranty for 5200$.

My boat is at C&O right now. I have nothing but good things to say about them... but I'm also probably a "preferred" customer since I've known the owner my entire life. I will say they're honest folks.

Here's a link to a guy here in Cookeville who is one of the biggest online dealers of Nissan/Tohatsu outboards. I've owned a Nissan for years and would highly recommend it. Anyway, check out his prices and be sure to look at the previous year model closeouts. Also, don't be afraid of the Tohatsu brand. They make all Nissan and Mercury outboards less than 40 hp

One of my duck hunting buddies ran a 25 Nissan for years. I'm embarrassed to say some of the stuff we put that motor through. It was bulletproof.

I bought my boat and trailer from B&B outdoors in Henderson. Haven't bought a motor yet because the duck get SO low in the summer time all we can do is float the river and use trolling motors. But I have about decided to go ahead and buy a motor for it and just use the kayaks in the low months.

Anyways, they seemed like a great group of guys and they sell Yamaha's. The 20 or 25 will be what I will get for mine. (1546 xpress)
