Where did all the acorns go?

After a morning hunt last week, my and I decided to check a ridge and sure enough, found the very first chinkapin oak we've seen with any substantial amount of acorns under it. It's a big one, too, so we picked a tree and made a way point.

Well, I'm over it this afternoon but I didn't notice one single acorn left when putting my stand on my tree! Maybe a deer will come nosing in the leaves, anyhow,. I'm sure I just missed the little notched crowns, but maybe the squirrels all got em. ?? Anyhow, I was just looking forward to this afternoon here. I've never had this happen with any other kind of oak.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Or it could be the squirrels. The other thing is that the squirrels around it are under it, so there's hardly any left in the tree. With all the red oak acorns and complete lack of white oak acorns, it's been some tough hunting so far.

around here the dee have been tearing up the red oaks. Doe I killed a week ago was full of them. Seen lots of notched acorn caps under a lot of red oaks too

I checked 4 places in Cumberland county Tn, no acorns of any kind in any of them so far....

Ought to make it easier. Every other red oak here has at least a few under it. Found the absolute mother lode of a double red oak going toward another spot yesterday afternoon with dozens of notched crowns under it. Since the wind seemed right for it I went ahead and picked a tree. Just like this afternoon. Saw nothing but a bunch of squirrels. I'm getting seriously discouraged with Cedar Forest this year.

All the red oaks I found several weeks ago was dropping great now this week all those trees have stopped dropping and no acorns left under them. And on our lease red oak seams to be only type we have this year.

We've got reds here in Wilson county that are still full of them. Yesterday afternoon squirrels were literally knocking them out over me by what sounded like handfuls. Maybe reason no deer came was all the commotion. Right now I'm watching a young buck under a red. First deer I've seen in three or four hunts....and two does. Guess I need to stick with their bread and butter, or the red oak acorns. At least I didn't get busted and saw a few so far. I'll know where to be next afternoon hunt we have westerly winds.

Deer, turkey, squirrels, and more turkey on my place. I'm glad personally as the deer have started to move back into the food plots. I did watch a white oak this morning before church that is still dropping. Had a few small bucks come by for a visit.

Oh yeah. The problem here in cedar forest is too many red oaks dropping and not enough deer.

I think some oaks dropped some acorns a lil premature about 2 weeks ago, as I too found a couple good trees and my boys took advantage and killed several under them for the first week. These trees now have zero acorns under them, and I never heard an acorn fall the last 3 days while in the woods. I'm hoping there are more to fall, time will tell?
