where can I hunt besides wma's

I don't know anyone to ask them for permission to hunt on their land. So I've been hunting wma's, but all I see so far is deer sign (tracks, scrapes) but never any deer...tried grunting with two different grunts, but I haven't had any luck...
been to hick hill mostly in lewis county. tried the hollers. tried the overgrown grass fields [grass is 7-8 feet tall]. tried the two (2) creeks left on hick hill with sustainable water.
Guess i'll try out eagle creek in wayne county soon.

There is a guy here columbia thats letting ppl hunt his land 62 acres 40$/day said he sees deer evrytime he is out there its never been hunted said he got almost all december an january still available..got his number if u need it

Eagle creek is a good place to hunt. It's not hard to find your way around either.

i saw that and i am skeptical and leery of that situation. i almost called the guy and told him he was an crazy to allow that to happen. if you look at the map it is more than half field and the other half is woods, but two of the wood lots are by the road. he wants to put 4 hunters out there at one time. I'm sure the first couple groups will do well, but after that I'd say there won't be many deer sightings. JMO.

oh and to answer your question, I've never hunted either, but Eagle hill is supposedly good, but i think it is Eagle Creek, I could be wrong though.

I thought the same i would only go out there if i could hunt it bymyself atleast half the day dont know if i would get that lucky or not tho

ya'll might be right eagle creek is the 20,000 +/- acres of wma in wayne county. Been to laurel hill in lawrence county a few times as I was lucky enough to be drawn to go on their quota hunts. one time there I hit a doe but she ran off [sighs]....

great but I'd rather not sounds like he's after a $40 bill versus letting someone with his permission harvest some deer...I'm just saying - if you're that guy and can get a $40 bill? happy for ya. Most people need landowner permission and don't charge them for it...just saying...

I grew up in Wayne County and hunting Eagle Creek. It was open only for a youth hunt, short archery hunt and four buck hunts for several years. The buck hunts went from 2 bucks to 1 when the statewide buck limit went to 3. And, they added a quota either sex hunt. It was always good hunting. Now that they have made it same as statewide, people don't hunt it as much (no more bounus bucks). It's still covered with deer. They just don't move as much as they did when it looked like a pumpkin patch.

good to know I usually go down there for gun season been sitting in the pine tops in a stand...saw a huge buck one year crossing a field...

I will check out beaver dam creek wma :)

thats closer to me than hick hill is in lewis county [by the road mileage its 15.4 miles to hick hill]. its only 12 miles up to the intersection of hwy 100 and hwy 48 and then a couple thousand meters left on hwy 100 is beaverdam wma...

so I will post back here if I go and get one :)

Do you mean you tried and could not find her or she just ran off? Most of the time, they run off but not far.

we followed a blood trail for 200 yards then poof invisiblity cloak came back on line even with a hit on her [it was a doe i hit]. I even had help the twra officer heard my shot and came around about 20 minutes later and I was marking the blood line and he helped look for her but alas...sadface

Unless you want to fork out some $$$ for a good lease, I would just learn to hunt those WMAs. You have plenty of them in your area.

I sure wish they would bring that early hunt back. That was a fun hunt and always saw deer. Some good times camping there to and not to cold then.
