Do they start hitting these? After the first frost? (This is my first year to plant them)

Just all depends on your deer. Mine are untouched on one property but were mowed down to the ground just a few days after first frost this year on my other place.

When? Sometimes never. I have had a lot of disapointment with them. Planted in several spots in the past and I have seen deer wear them out in one location and not touch them in all others - I don't plant them anymore. That is just MY experience, but I seem to have incredibly finicky deer when it comes to turnips...I imagine it has something to do with the minerals in the soil at any given site and not necessarily my part of the state.

NORMALLY, after the first freeze. However, I've seen deer wear them out early, and not touch them at all. What works best in your plots will take considerable experimentation.

We planted some last year and the deer never touched them until late december, early part of january and then they tore them up.
