I've got a spot to hunt, that's about 40 acres. It's probably 70/30 (woods/fields). I've got pics of couple good bucks. When is best time and way to scout and move stands this time of year, without running them off the property. It's not crop fields but has lots of acorns.

Prime time to scout is right after the season closes in Jan. But you can do a little looking around now as you go and in out from the stand(s). Also, if these deer see or hear humans on a regular basis, Id go ahead do some looking. What I would look for are oak trees, red or white, that are dropping and have feedings signs. Also possible to see just trails into and out of the woods and into or out of the fields.

Year round

It doesn't take hours to do it
I always at different times of hunting season
To spend a little time looking for fresh sign
and it's lead to many bucks being killed

Always, I usually scout before I hunt every time. With a small tract of land, I would be careful though.

I always scouted during bow season. I didn't trample through the woods, but I'd take a few indirect turns on way out each time to see if sign was popping up elsewhere. Only other time I really ever scouted was late January/early February looking for good rubs.
