In the early 90's a group of use started passing
on just any buck, then cutting back on the number
killed here in Montgomery and Stewart Counties.

That group got bigger and bigger and started
Asking "what if", then with a 3 Buck limit backing off
more many passing on that 2nd or 3rd.

These counties have great Hunting and plenty
of public hunting, FT C, LBL, CC, Stewart state Forrest
etc

We asked why can't these 2 counties just have
a 2 buck limit, why ? All the public land can be
And usually is bonus bucks

But TWRA has always turned their heads on this
idea and know it's grown so look at that the fights
it causes....... It could have been a simple
Test for 5-7 years.....but no
Even to the point of a Staff member saying 2 bucks
Over my dead body.........

And I use to think TWRA salaries where paid
Buy hunters.......what ever comes out of this
Fight, cause that's what's soooomany call it
the Deer Staff get what they deserve

Twra doesn't manage the herd for trophy bucks like some states. I don't think it should.

You have WMAs, leased farms and clubs that have restrictions to grow bigger bucks. That's a good thing IMO. Most bonus buck WMAs are draw only, and a lot of WMAs are not bonus buck.

The rest of the state is set up more liberally to keep the herd in check, and also because not everybody wants to pass so many bucks, some people don't care about racks and a lot of people need whatever meat they can get in the crosshairs.

I am on twra's side on this issue. I don't want TN to become like some other states with lower limits and more nonresident hunters looking for a big buck. Public land is crowded enough as it is. Keep TN the way it is and manage for a healthy herd, which as far as I can tell, our statewide herd is in great shape, even age structure has and still continues to improve.

Carman, can you tell me one state that manages for trophy bucks? I know numerous states that manage the herd to sustain a appropriate amount of older deer to maintain balance in the herd and for qaulity, but not a one solely for trophy bucks statewide.

The states with a 1 buck limit get flooded with hunters from all over so the residents get no better treatment from their own state. Also most of those states are northern with less deer per hunters perhaps? The trophy hunters will price out all the other hunters they can till 1 day it will be the same as hunting in Europe where only the well off have guns and lands to hunt. Why would you care what other folks hunt some where else as it dosent effect your hunting other than the idea that they kill more than you want them too?

If this is for me, I have Never asked for a 1 Buck Limit, But I will say in the past and still presently E TN Hunters have given that effect as out of state hunters to the 2 counties I'm talking about

landman,

I ask this respectfully, as you seem to be one of the most adamant and vocal about buck limit reduction, but is this the main reason you want them reduced?

Reducing buck limits will not cater to trophy hunting, it WILL increase EVERYONES quality of hunting. We would of course need to reduce gun days as well for Mont Co or cut muzzle loader back. Simple recipe, reduce pressure increase quality of hunting. It would be cool to see this experiment take place in Stewart and Mont Counties.

Legalize baiting too, our Game Wardens here need to focus on important matters.

Exactly. It seems the liberals of hunting fail to understand that sometimes less is more. Liberal limits can honestly be associated with a political liberal's mindset. "It's all about me and what I want-to heck with managing to keep things in balance"

Lower buck limits offer improvement to the herd. Nobody should feel bad because they aren't allowed to kill three bucks every year.

Nope, mike243 started the out of state hunter, most go about a do there job and look at hunting a few months out of the year.

But I deal with Land 24/7/365 Buyers, Sellers, Clients, and Land Management, I don't deal with leasing, I'l give you a name or 2 to call in Ky if your looking,
but all the talk of trophyism I've been called is fine, but at the same time everyone one here wants to kill a big buck.(I'm sure several will know say no but thats B+)

Client after Client asks the same question why is the limit 3 when 1.5% just kill 3, I'm speaking for more than myself, and No I don't think TN is going to become a Trophy state, if you go to a 2 buck limit, are lease fees going up, sure, but not from out of hunters, more from flippers and people wanting BETTER PLACES TO HUNT WITH BETTER DEER, you don't see them posting on here looking for a place to hunt that s+++s do you. No I'm not a biologist like
BSK but I've been doing what I do since 1994 with land and as a landowner, I've got big shoulders and don't let the newbies with 10K posts that know everything brother me. But I am passionate about what I do and love.

Its been asked for test areas like I have said, but that falls on death ears, year after year, now something may happen, may not, but if any changes happen
everyone can look in the mirror and said I helped cause it....everyone wants it their way only, but a LARGE GROUP has asked for test areas or UNIT L only changes
or even just 3-5 counties

the "comment period for hunters" please... last year BBG spent about 2 minutes trying to find the best way to discredit all the hunter comments to the commission, don't believe me, its all recorded on line yes I've called him out on this before but he never responds why is that...the truth is the truth

A Commission member has told me the New Comment email was sent to 200,000 those really made a lot of people happy as you saw the way they where worded

Yes I'm sick of the whole thing like many, and of many of the comments, I trust the TWRA Guys in the field with boots on the ground and work with then anyway I can, but the Deer Guys don't have much support from very few on both sides of the issue

So yes I run my mouth off again I would like to see unit L go to a 2 Buck Limit, DATA sure give me the DATA TWRA used to base the change from a 2 Buck limit to a 3 Buck limit in one year first......

But maybe you should read my Post "3 Buck Limit" dated Jan. 25, 2015, it got 256 comments and 3,287 views I can live with that 3 Buck Limit

sounds to me the lower limit people are closer to political liberals. "We need the government to tell us what we can do".

maximum hunter opportunity without hurting the herd. hunting is improving under the current limit without further restricting what hunters can shoot.

Please describe quality hunting ? Trophyism!!! doesn't mean quality in my opinion but we can see that in some uneducated beliefs that the deer herd in Tn is way out of balance from bull yugo they read or watch on tv. I hope they put bucks up for a drawn hunt and you only get drawn every 3-5 years for 1 buck. weed out the dang trigger pullers and let more deer die of old age cause some body some where might have got a shot at it driving down a road, never mind they didn't have permission to hunt there but when you wait that long seasons open every where rite ? ;)

You were close stik, but the lower buck limiters are closer to Liberals not because they need the government to tell them what to do, but because they want the government to take freedoms away from OTHER PEOPLE so they can personally benefit. THAT is Liberalism at it's finest.

Wow. Just wow...

Because I promised myself I would stop being snarky on this site, I won't comment in full about this post. But in short, thanks for defining what "quality hunting" is for EVERYONE, instead of letting us decide that for ourselves.

Kind of like TWRA did with the email, instead of letting the hunters decide what the limit should be. It wasn't going the way TWRA and the liberal buck limit minority wanted it to go so they are trying to change the out come.

:D My quality of hunting is not just measured in a one buck kill, it's in the time spent afield as well. Limiting the bucks (Unit A mind you) will deprive me and others of more time hunting.

If anyone wants to kill three bucks, that is selfish. Two buck limit people are just wanting a healthier herd. If you shoot two bucks in a year and aren't satisfied, learn a little trigger discipline.

Seems I read the Great BSK state he himself would
be OK with a 2 Buck Limit....guess it depends what party
t
Your supporting that day

Interesting. So now proponents of a 2 buck limit are not only Trophyists, they are now liberals as well because they are taking away hunters personal freedoms? Bryan, since you have stated on here numerous times that you have no problem going to a 2 buck limit, I would assume that you fall into this trophyist/liberal demographic?

I'm honestly not surprised that you are defending the email that was sent.

Kind of like TWRA did with the email, instead of letting the hunters decide what the limit should be.

Is the TWRA not the governing body tasked with deciding what the limits should be? Aren't they just doing their jobs? What in that email said, "We don't care what hunters think"? Would a governing body that doesn't care what hunters think actually ask for their input?

What if killing three bucks does no harm to the herd? In many parts of the state, hunters being allowed 3 bucks is doing no harm to the herd at all. Why should a hunter "learn a little trigger discipline" when they are doing no harm? If that is the hunting experience they enjoy, and they are not hurting the resource, why does anyone care what they are doing?
