Whats goin on here?

I have a pond I have fished for a long time. There are tons of catfish in there. Well if nothin bites we throw fish food out. We have done this for years and have caught some good ones. But here lately we have thrown food out and catfish come up everywhere. No bites! We have used liver, worms and cut bait and they still wont take it. So whats goin on and what else can I use?

Use whatever you throw out there for them to eat. Sounds like they've become accustomed to that. If it's the kind of food I'm thinking of I suppose it would be hard to get it on a hook though........

I know! Don't feed them for a week and then go back to chicken livers or worms! :grin:

For some reason, catfish that are fed on grain-based food seem to respond pretty well to commercially-prepared stinkbaits. Try some of those.

Be sure to fish under a float and keep your bait close to the surface. You've conditioned the fish to "look up" for food, so if you fish close to the bottom they're not going to see it.

Put the fish food in a small piece of pantyhose and fish with that.

put a bread ball 4 or 5 inches under a bobber. instead of food throw out a bunch of small rocks and pebbles. they sound like food hitting the water and the fish get hungry. the only food available will be your breadball. we used to do it alot at my buddy's catfish pond until he sold the place. I guarantee you, it will work.

use some kind of floating bait. are you keeping them? if you are, free spool for a couple seconds so they wont know its not theyre food!
