What's biting up at the dam, on the riverside, I'm heading up there in a little while and I haven't been hearing much about the fishing.

PICKWICK LAKE/J. P. COLEMAN:
Pickwick Lake elevation: 413.66 ft. with a slight rise at the time of this report. The bass bite is still excellent for numbers and good for quality. It took 22.46lbs to win a tournament there this past Saturday despite all the boat traffic. While the quality bite is proving a bit tougher to find for some anglers, most anglers are continuing to have great days as far as numbers go. Anglers are using a variety of tactics and lures to trigger bites. Anything from a 10xd crankbait to a drop-shot finesse worm will work. A couple a techniques seem to be working better than most. That would be a football head jig and a Carolina-rig. If you can find the fish, it�s almost a sure bet you can get one or two to bite if not more. Most are targeting water depths of about 15-25ft in depth. Not all ledges and humps are holding fish, so you may have to fish a few to finally find a school. Bass anglers need to keep in mind the new minimum length limit on Pickwick that went into effect on March 21. All black bass (including largemouth, smallmouth and spotted bass) must be over 15 inches in order to keep. The catfish bite is still very good right now, whether you are hand grabbing, trotlining, jug fishing or the just plain ole rod-n-reel fishing. The jug and rod-n-reel crowd are having very good success on strawberry flavored chicken and cut/whole shad. Not many crappie anglers are braving the heat, but the ones that are, are targeting suspended fish in Yellow and Bear Creeks by trolling/drifting minnows and jigs in 20-30ft of water. The striper action has picked up significantly over the past couple of weeks, particularly below Pickwick dam. Anglers are throwing big swimbaits and spoons to catch their fish.
