you dont need any 338 for anything inside a mile unless it wants to eat you,,
me and a friend of mine took the kids out to shoot on spring break,,he has a Stiller Tac 300 long action in 300WSM with a 9 twist Bartlien HV bbl in a McMillan A5 stock shooting 215 Hybirds at 2890 fps,,it is a load of a gun,,I was shooting my 243 Tac 30 short action with Krieger 8 twist bbl and in the AICS 1.5 chassis shooting the 105 VLDH bullets at 3200 fps, I have 20 ,15 ,and 10 inch gongs at 1025 and a 6x8 inch head shot plate at 1065,,
we were about even on the 1025 plates but I hit the head shot at 1,065 4 out of a 5 shot mag and he never got on it with the 300 WSM,,he did bust both the spray paint cans on the ground at the 1025 yard gongs,
I had a blast of a day,,I gotta get up off the bench and and shoot my prone rifle now and again,,it is an absolute blast,,
I used to think you had to shoot a 300 RUM or 338 L to hit anything past 600 yards but IMO the accuracy and ease of shooting a 105 -110 6mm at 2900-3200 fps or a 130-147 6.5 at 28-2900 fps will let you make shots well past 1,000 yards and do it with bullets that cost half what 338s do and with about 40 grs of powder instead of 75,,
it is the best time in history to get into long range shooting,,there has never been a time that you could get into 600-1000 yard shooting as cheap as you can now,,
