We have been hunting the same property in Clarksville for the past 4 years. Last year when my son and I shot a deer and it went onto the neighbors property......we went and secured permission to continue our search.....but I had been forewarned that this person was off kilter. He made us show him the blood trail, which I was fine with. Then he asked us why we were killing "all" the deer? I told him that we hadn't even scratched the surface. He stood by and watched our every move.

FFWD this year. I asked my buddy who is ML hunting how it was going. He said great despite the neighbor driving his truck along the fence line honking his horn to scare deer away from my buddy. Not much you can do. I told my buddy to park differently...so that the neighbor won't know that he is there.

Tonight I asked my buddy what he had seen.....he texted me back.....the neighbor in his truck with a pistol....firing shots in the general area of my buddies stand.....little did the guy know that there wasn another hunter only a 100yds away. My buddy immediately called the cops and filed a complaint. An investigation will ensue. I wish he had used his phone first to video the situation.....because it truly is a he said/she said......other than the other hunter obviously saw/heard what was going on.

What would you do? I told my buddy that we should put a cut out of a hunter in his stand and see if it gets shot. Put up a trail camera? I wish I could take a personal day at school and I would be willing to sit/video whaterver happens. I am still in shock. I used to have a stand close to the property line, but I moved it. It wasn't worth the hassle. I have several good spots that are several hundered yard from the property line....but my buddies spot is the honey hole and I know he doesn't want to give it up, he killed a 150 class buck last year during ML season. I did tell him to tell the landowner, if I was the cops I would follow up and ask if we had permission to be there in the first place.....and if I was a landowner I would rather here from the hunter before the cops.

That's hunter harassment plain an simple which is a crime. I would be taking some video and contacting the GW.

My cousin was being harassed in Roane County on a farm by a neighbor he was shooting riding his four wheeler up-and-down the property every time he saw their truck parked he also threw mothballs on the property he also even through corn over the fence accusing him of baiting and hunting over it long story short my cousin contacted the game warden he came out my cousin had a video proof of the guy shooting his gun is cannons everything while they were hunting also the mothballs they prosecuting he went to court he did not show up to court thought it was a joke they came to his house arrested him payed fines etc it does work

I know the TWRA Sargeant in this area and I guarantee you he enforces it. I've seen him do it.

Hunter Harassment no questions asked. First time i ever saw this take effect was in Arkansas duck hunting back when i was a kid. There used to be this old man who was dentist. He had a specific hole he hunted. He killed the crap out of ducks. I mean smoked them no matter what. This hole was just that good. He didnt mess with anyone or anyrthing and never hunted anywhwere else. Very nice old man. If you wanted to hunt with him, all you had to do was ask. Well some guys from Alabama came in one morning and decided they were going to guide out of the hole and told him to go elsewhere. The old man told them this was his hole and no one was hunting but him, but if they wanted to hunt with him, they were more than welcome. Since the guys were guiding, they didnt want him to hunt. Well he picked up and said fine, if im not going to kill any birds, neither are you. Everytime ducks got to working, he would hit the boat paddle on the water and flair them. The Bama guys started videoing it and turned it in to Arkansas game a fish. Judge threw the book at him. Told him he was fixen to make an example out of him. Took his rights for 5 yrs and took his gun, boat, everything. They take that very seriously... I would be there everyday with a camera and make sure you see him and have clear evidence of him. Make sure you get his truck, license plate, everything.

I would throw hunter harassment in there too, but if someone starts intentionally shooting a gun even in my general direction, harassment would be at the bottom of the list of charges I would press. Contact the sheriff and tell him that someone is shooting a gun at you to keep you from hunting. Criminal assault with a deadly weapon (felony) and reckless endangerment. And if you're persistent and sincere and let them know when you're going to be there, the sheriff dept. will probably send a deputy observe and then it won't be he-said-he-said any more.

Thanks for your help, the police turned this over to the Game Warden, because he admitted that he was "hunting" from his vehicle. Like I said, he said/she said, so video would be the only way to prove it. My buddy stated that the police were frustrated with said individual because he is a retired police officer who they knew wasn't telling the truth. They believe that he wont be a problem anymore.....so here's to hoping@!

If you havent already, I would contact the sheriff's department directly rather than the municipal police. They are more likely to help with stuff like this. Be sure to emphasize that this guy is shooting towards you on purpose and someone could get killed.

Thanks for the advice......locals grilled him, knowing that he was retired State trooper. They turned him over to Fish/Wildlife because he "admitted" to hunting from his vehicle.....we know that he wasn't, but because it was a he said, she said.....it was the best that they could get. We are hoping that this is the end of it.

BUddy shot a big 8 this morning.....it jumped the fence, went on the neighbors property, he immediately heard a shot, when he went to get his deer.....the landowner said it was his. No concept of "First blood". So though I am several hundred yards away, I am going to make sure that if the deer is 100yds and in....I am going to take the head shot if it is headed towards the neighbors property.

If you're going to continue hunting there I would not be hunting close enough to the line that a deer could get to the other property if shot.
Sounds like it will only get worse in the future.

My stands are far away....only a bad shot will lead to an animal making it to his property.....my buddy has the honey hole for the property, he killed a 150 class last year opening day of ML, there is a monster 12 running around. I used to have a stand that bordered the property....but I moved it, wasn't worth dealing with the landowner......this is my buddy's last year here, he is moving to VA after this year.....but I am going to contact others that own property and see if I can park my vehicle and walk in a different direction....that is part of the problem, he sees that are trucks are parked and knows that we are there....
