I will post this in the general forum as well.

I got drawn for LBL this year. Should have went last year, but had a big 14 pt on camera and wanted to hunt him. Now I have no pictures of him or the 10 pt he was running with since last Dec. I have had a few pics of 2.5 year old 8 pts, and possibly a 2.5 7 pt. They have since shifted. I know there was a good 8 last year that lived, but he doesn't show up until around the middle of November, so assuming he hasn't died by some other means, he should be back.

I took of Thursday and Friday to go to LBL. Of course Thursday is a travel and scouting day, so I can't hunt. If I go, I will hunt till Saturday and come home. At this point my wife will be ready to turn my 5 yr old over to me, and will not want me to hunt on Sunday AM. According tot he forecast (if it holds) Thursday AM is around 36 degrees here in Rutherford county. Friday and Saturday the am lows are bit lower than LBL, but the PM highs are a bit higher. However Sunday it is supposed to be 33 degrees. This will be the coldest it has been this year. I should also mention I have bought the $35 permit to camp and use LBL.

Obviously I'd be eating the $35 permit, but I could hunt Thursday all day, Friday all day, probably Saturday in the PM and then Sunday in the AM in Rutherford county. I have 2 does in the freezer, so no need to kill one, but I did say, this time If i drove up there and didn't see a buck by Saturday AM, that I would shoot a doe that morning if I saw one. I will not shoot a buck unless i would hang a tag on him anywhere.

Here is my question (obviously) should I go to LBL or just stay home?

I know what you mean, it's supposed to be cold here as well, and it's also gonna be cool there and the big boys should be cruzing. I committed to go with my buddies and I'm gonna go as bad as I hated to drive the 5 hr drive but I would hate it worse if one of them a big one and I didn't go I would never hear the end of it

As an FYI i think it bears mentioning. On my property, i usually see the bigger deer start to show up on camera during the daytime around Nov. 20th usually. Even though it will be cold it has been cold in the past and it did nothing.

The opening weekend of Rifle and the following week do not look as good weather wise.

Which hunt in 13?

the rifle hunt this Friday and Saturday of this week.
Personally I'd go. Especially if you have both buck tags left. 1 just in case for lbl and one for the 14pt.

On a side note let me know how it goes I'm in 13 for the second hunt

Don't get caught up in the exact temperatures, seems like you've already invested money in LBL, so I would go there if I were you.

Regardless of how you play it, I would go to LBL. One thing to consider... If you only have a couple of stand sites at home, it's an opportunity to let them rest.

Tough call. 13 is probably the best area there but there's alot of hunters. Chances of them putting the deer on their feet are good but the chances of Elmer walking by you in the tree are also good.
