That's what I said when the guys showed up with buckwheat rather than winter wheat the day we were planting in Stewart ....But let me tell you the deer are hammering it! It came up fast in that rocky soil and although the first frost with be its end ,I'm thinking of doing a spring planting. It also has kept them off the clover and the other plantings .....and all we did was overseed with it ....
 
I often use Buckwheat in fall plots. Now the first frost will kill it dead, but until then it is a great bow-season magnet.

I hope to try some next year . Where is the best place to buy it ?

Just make sure you do not broadcast without covering the seed. It does not germinate well broadcast onto bare ground.
