Ok, got this little small remote field back in the woods on my new place. About 125 yards long, maybe 60 yards wide... Should get 5 - 6 hours of sun during the spring and summer after the leaves pop out on the trees.. No problem getting my tractor back to it..

Now, what to plant.. Would like for it to be green next fall and winter too? Some clover or a mix of clover and something else? Thinking planting it in early to mid April.. :?:

Clover needs to be planted soon or a dry hot summer will be very hard on it. Plant it with grain rye or forage oats to help hold the soil and add food value & encourage the clover to get tall. In september go back and plant winter wheat, turnips & radishes for that winter food.

or

Wait till may, plant forage beans then in september broadcast the winter blend in the standing beans. This will produce a good volume of food that will be desirable (except during acorn drop).
