I got the next 3 days off and the weather is looking better. I got drawn for Catoosa gun hunt and can hunt it Thursday and Friday but I have not scouted it at all this year. I also have a small piece of property that I had a trail camera on all summer and had a very nice 10 pointer and a wide six that I had seen. I saw them both on opening day of archery and I've decided to let that area go in till gun season. I'm not sure where to hunt. What would you do? Both areas are about an hour and a half away from the house.

Is the wind right for your small piece of property? If not Catoosa would be my choice. If the wind is right and weather is getting good and know of some good deer on your private property it'd be hard for me not to go there.

I've got other pictures but they're all at night.

I've got 3 spots around a field I can set up on depending on wind. And in the middle of the field I keep 3 hay bails together to use as a blind. The middle of the field is my favorite spot to hunt with a gun. I want that 10 bad. I sometimes wonder if he thinks about me as much as I think about him.

Go get him! If I had one on camera that I was excited about and had options for diff wind directions, I would hunt my buck!

You put in for a draw hunt and got drawn keeping someone else from getting that hunt. I think you should hunt the draw hunt. I don't think it's right to put in for hunts and then not go. The guy you bumped out might not have any other options.

That is a valid point as well.

I don't disagree with you at all. But I try to give myself options. With loosing 100 acre farm last year and gaining a 20 acre plot after the draw deadline, not knowing if any deer were on it. I have to go where I know the deer are. To be a successful hunter you have to give yourself the best opportunity to harvest. Also being a lifetime sportsman license holder I always like to have options year after year.

You say "I don't disagree with you at all" then go on to disagree with me. Apparently you don't care about bumping other guys off hunts then not going as long as you are keeping options open. Sounds selfish and inconsiderate to me, but that's your choice.

That's a different story then. Around here the hunts always fill up. The hysteria over President's Island is probably changing everything.

Really? I see the point in both your arguments...Spur, everyone has their own opinion and you voiced yours but uncalled for in my opinion.

As to the OP...I myself would go where I would have a better chance of seeing deer! If you have spots from years past go to catoosa and hunt but if not then go where you know for sure where deer are and have a chance at killing a deer you want!

And you are entitled to your opinion just as I am. Ain't America great?

Seems simple enough. If I wanted to hunt the draw hunt and have 1 day open before the hunt I might scout there. Otherwise I'd hunt my other land Wednesday and go from there depending on what I saw.

Very valid !!

Pretty sure that if all 2000 people showed up at Catoosa, then you would have to bring your own tree to climb. And the hunting is so tough that they had left over permits after 2 quota draws. Kill the big 10 then head to Catoosa and bag a bonus buck.... good luck.

I would not worry about the wind. I would hunt.

You might find that the harvest percentage goes up when more folks show up. I'm afraid that may be the problem at catoosa. If more folks did show up then more deer would be on their feet and this be seen and possibly harvested. But that's just my viewpoint.
