after buying the son and daughter new guns this year, daddy should have his goal amount saved up by mid january  if you had 1000 dollars saved up for a new rifle and scope what would you choose.im looking at 243 or 308 caliber, thanks for the help, there is just so many to pick from out there i change my mind about every day on what to get :D

Remington 700 VTR. Available in both 243 and 308 around 700 bucks. Minox ZA3. Around 350. after rebate. This puts you a little over the 1000 with rings and bases....but hey you got to start somewhere.

Ruger M77 Hawkeye in .308
Zeiss conquest 3-9x40

Nothing fancy just my favorite gun and my favorite scope.

If you can find a decent price on the above gun you should still have enough $$ to get the trigger worked over. Which I think all rugers need. IMO

I've about decided on this but in .243. Picked one up in Bass Pro Thanksgiving day and really liked it. Much cheaper at buds though. Haven't started looking at scopes yet so not sure there.

That Winchester Model 70 Extreme Weather .308 Model70Man posted is sweet too.

I was just looking at a Browning A Bolt II Medallion in 7mm-08 on gunbroker...I believe the seller is in KNoxville. BIN is just under $600, so you might have enough left over to get a Zeiss Conquest to put on it.

TC Venture with Leupold 2.5-8 VX3 mounted in Warne rings. Buy it all new for just under a grand tax included. Rifle is guaranteed for life, guaranteed to shoot under 1 inch at 100 yards. They do shoot that well and even better. I have one and it shoots better than 1 inch with 4 different brands of premium ammo. Scope and rings are also guaranteed for life as well.

Best of all is that this entire rig is 100% AMERICAN MADE

Obviously American made doesn't mean much to some. It means everything to me.

I hate to burst your bubble, but Leupold scopes aren't 100% American made. Close enough though. Their glass is made in Japan or Europe.

It's a crying shame it's so hard to buy 100% American made products that we use on a daily basis.
