What time are you in the stand?

Been a year since I hunted last :) . What time are you settling in this weekend, then of course adjusting for the time change from there on...

I like to be in the stand 45 minutes to 1 hr before dawn so Saturday looks like 630 to 645 Sunday 530 to 545. I like to hear the woods come to life. Some of my buddies think I get in the stand way to early

If I have to use my climber I want to be to the tree and setting up at least an hour before light. If the stand is there and I just need to walk in 30 minutes before light.

I totally agree about getting in stand way before day break--thats what I do too. I'd like to know at what time specifically daybreak is--when you can start seeing at all. It's been a year since my last hunt so I can quite remember... 7am? 15 til?

Last week I got settled in my stand about 6:05 a nice 8 point came in at 6:30 (still too dark to shoot) and stayed in the area until I got a shot on him at 6:55. I always like getting in my stand about 30 mins before fist light.

There are technically four sunrises when speaking about the time of sunrise: Astronomical, Nautical, Civil & Official.

I use Nautical sunrise & Civil sunrise for hunting.

At the time reported when it will be Nautical sunrise...I like to be in my tree have everything ready to go and am being still. At this time the sky is a teeny bit lit up and you can just start to make out the bigger limbs in the tree tops above you. The ground is pretty much still pitch dark.

When the time of Civil sunrise rolls around, usually about 30 minutes after Nautical sunrise it's game on!

If you have a smartphone I reccomend you download the "Sunrise Sunset" app and you'll be good to go!

So per the app: Nautical sunrise on this coming saturday will be 7:05. I'll be in my stand ready to go & still.

Civil Sunrise will be at 7:36...light enough to see to shoot.

If I was hunting in counties with cougars on trail cams I would only hunt midday. :pray:

When picking your shooting time, remember that the LEGAL shooting time is 30 minutes before OFFICIAL SUNRISE for your location. Sometimes that is after it is light enough to see to shoot.

Thats really good to know. Thanks. My dad always told me if it was light enough to clearly see your sights that was pretty much was the same time legal shooting hours began.... Im guessing now you can see your sights a few minutes before 30 min prior to legal shooting hours.
