I can't find the dates 2016-17 seasons...on their website and Facebook it still has last season's dates...I did see where they passed that any deer with antlers protruding from the hairline will count towards buck limit

I figured that they would. We are definitely trying to become a trophy state and TWRA is pandering to the trophy hunters' demands. Funny thing is, they also drastically reduced antlerless harvest opportunities in Unit A. That's the only way that the laws passed the last 2 years make any sense.

Didn't ML and rifle season open on Mondays in the past. I personally wouldn't mind it.

Unless they have changed their system, gun season always opens the Saturday before Thanksgiving. MZ season opens two weeks prior to the opening of gun.

Honestly I don't think they have posted any dates publicly...at least that I found anyways....maybe OP made the same mistake I made at first and read the 2015-16 dates??

I was referring to doing away with the 3" rule. This was because people were getting too worked up over a few people killing little bucks that they thought should not be taken. Most of them are mistaken identity, and in the past would allow said hunter to continue hunting, but now could mean that the hunter's season is over to even harvest does if they have no more buck tags because another mistaken identity could cost them a ticket.

I think the main issue is going to be wasted deer because of mistaken identity...I believe there are going to be people not properly age a deer in hopes of it being a doe and then walk up and see its a button buck, and leave it laying...that will be the true travesty...too many dishonest people out there...but if everyone followed the rules I think it will only help buck to doe ratios.

And you CAN still kill the bucks with hard horn exposed too. They will however count towards your buck limit.

I have not read the 2016 regs so I really cannot comment with armed information.

But if they change the regulation to a button buck being counted as one of your bucks towards your two statewide... you are going to see alot of hunters leaving for dead alot of buttons or failing to report buttons or turning them in as does.

I saw alot of this when I hunted MS when they had a 3 point or better rule... or whatever the rule was. Its been awhile since I hunted down there but I recall finding a lot of bucks that were under the rule and left for dead.

According to the rule it is any antler above the hair line.

2016-2017 H&T guides are not out yet, it's usually August before they hit the shelves. OP was definitely referencing the 2015-2016 H&T guide in err.

It has always been printed with minimal errors when you account for the vast amount of data that goes into the Guide. Several agency employees spend a bunch of man hours trying to make it perfect. That has never happened, but when you look at the data entered versus the mistakes, they most likely hit the 98-99% mark for correct data.

But, I'm sure it won't be perfect. That is why there is always a disclaimer in bold print in the front of the guide that the Hunting Guide is NOT a legal document. The legal documents are always the Proclamations and Rules and Regulations. They are linked for your convenience on the TWRA website, and are available for review at your county court clerk's office.

It must be great to work at a business that always bats 1,000.

I just don't see it being that difficult to correct errors in the Hunting Guide before it goes to print. And I certainly don't think it's too hard to list the correct hunting season open and closing dates on a 12 month calendar before it's printed.

You have no idea how difficult it is working off of a VERY short deadline with the publisher of the HG after the dates are finalized. Some are errors by the publisher in not correcting things the staff has identified as an error, but most of the very few mistakes are dates that change from year to year and just don't get caught. My surprise every year is how few mistakes there actually are working under the time constraints they do trying to get the Guide out before the season starts in August.

You should volunteer your services. Glad your business bats a 1000.
