Ok so i have a few questions. How much seed per acre are y'all putting out. Going to get my plots in this weekend. What kind of seed mix should I put out. Land Is in west Tn. As I don't have alot of experience with food plots. I am used to just discing and throwing store bought seed with minimal results. So I am wanting to do it right this year. Fields have been cut and sprayed. Also where do y'all buy your seed and how much fertilizer do ya use? Any advise would be great. Thanks.

First thing to do is get a soil test done - no matter what, even if you do everything else perfectly you could still end up with minimal results if your soil needs are not met.

Definitely get soil tested it will tell you how much lime and fertilizer to put out. Check with co-op about spreader rate tell them what type of spreader you are using. Hopefully you have a roto tiller to break up disked ground and then you run a harrow over seed to cover.....good luck.

As a starting place until you get all the tests done, 300 lbs of 13-13-13 works pretty will. Plant 100 lbs of one of the deer plot mixes per acre ( it doesn't have to be one of the high priced tecomate, biologic etc mixes to get good results) Add a couple lbs of clover and a couple of pounds of purple top turnips. This combo has worked for years. Liming now won't help much this year unless you use the pelletized lime.

The fields are ready to plant. So I will be planting this weekend. I was asking what should I plant. If I should just use a store bought food plot or make my own mix. If I make my own mix what seeds should I buy. Thanks for all the info so far.

not sure where you are in west tn but i buy all my seeds from seeds co in memphis, tn. They have about anything and are cheaper than most places. They have a pre mix stuff or you can mix it your self. I usally plant wheat, winter peas, clover and some plots i will throw in turnups i dont have the exact pounds per acre i lay down but will find them if you want them

It depends on what you are wanting to do. If you are wanting what i would call a kill plot just by wheat and plant 100 lbs per acre. If you are wanting a late season plot plant brassicas. There are countless varieties you could plant. It depends on what results you are looking for. The evolved harvest mega plot mix at walmart is some good stuff if you just a simple route.
