I am in the market for a new bow. Bow hunted for years with a Darton lightning but stopped due to work family etc. I looked at a new Matthews yesterday and to say the technology has changed is an understatement. I shot 65 lbs with a 30-1/2 draw back in the day. Will use for deer and elk. I know this is a trick question and opinions vary but what are the top three brands now? Also what pro shop near Nashville is the best. I previously dealt with Phillips back in the day but they are long gone. I appreciate any feedback.
 
Go check out Binks Lodge in Franklin and shoot a few bows. I picked up an Elite Ritual 35 from them in March. Good folks there. They carry Elite, Bowtech, and I think a couple more brands.
 
Current premium brands that I can think of off the top of my head: Mathews, Hoyt, Bowtech, Elite, Prime

I shoot a Mathews Triax. I was just shocked at how quiet it was. My backup bow is a 12 year old Diamond (Bowtech's less expensive sibling brand). When I was a kid I shot PSE bows. If I had it to do over again, I would probably not let me ego get ahead of my wallet and get something more in the $400-$700 range. There is a lot of great equipment out there to be had at nearly every price point.
 
It might be worth your time to check out Herndon Archery prolly bout a hour or so nw of Nashville BUT he is going out of business and everything in store is 25% off...I would call first.

I have the Vertix. But at 30 1/2" draw length I would go Traverse on what Mathews offers. I would think the string angle and peep being a bit further could hinder your accuracy. Just shoot a bunch and buy what fits. I walked into the shop and had myself convinced it would be the Traverse. The Vertix just felt better.

I quit bow hunting 10 years ago so i'm trying to catch up with technology. I have a western hunt scheduled for September 2020 in the high country so weight is a factor. overall you cannot go wrong with this bow and its only real drawback is the price. its light, quiet, smooth and a high quality piece of equipment that should last me 10 years. the aluminum riser hoyt was $400 cheaper and I hate to admit it but I just liked the RX-3 better somewhat based on the looks. I want to have confidence in my equipment and if you like something that goes a long way.

as you are keenly aware, you can kill a stack of em with a $250 bow.
 
I don't know all the new bows and technology. I don't shoot 3-d either, now that's out of the way.

I would suggest shooting as many bows as I could get my hands on. I like ELITE, BOWTECH and MATTHEWS always seems to get to the top of the list.

ALSO, I would say that where I bought my bow would be as important as WHAT bow I buy. It' nice to be associated with a pro shop to go to when I have questions.
