What makes a colt AR15 any better than say a dpms, bushmaster? I don't know anything about AR15s so help is appreciated.

Fit, finish, resale value, the Colt name is just considered to be Quality. Are they better than say Bushmaster in terms of shooting...probably not. Will they have a higher resale value...you can bank on it. I personally own 3 Colts and 2 Bushmasters and I would just as soon shoot the Bushmasters as the Colts.
There is probably 150 or more different manufacturers of AR15's. Find a good reputable brand and stay away from the Frankenguns and you will be all right.

It says Colt. Some people think that is important, but I dont they make a superior AR to most of the other major brands.

Resale value is number one...they do not use the same parts as others and Colt requires its very few part suppliers to Magnetic Particle Inspects(MPI) and hardness test and test each part lot for corrosion resistance. Those parts that are not built 'in-house' that fail any test go out to the 'other' distributors of AR parts from the suppliers. QUALITY MAKES IT A COLT. I'm a little jaded though as my Colt M4A1 got me out of a few binds 'down-range'

Colt is a little better than a DPMS or Bushmaster but not much. There are quite a few AR's out there that are a LOT better than the Colts. Mostly it is the name as many have mentioned already. They were one of the first to make an AR for civilians so the name has been around longer. If you plan to sell your AR at some time in the future then the Colt is a good investment unless you pay too much for it. If you plan to keep the gun and shoot the heck out of it then get you a Rock River and you will never look back. My RRA Tactical Entry will shoot as well or better than any Colt with the same sized barrel and it has been doing it for several thousand rounds.
