I am a transplant to TN so I cant speak to what it has been, and I know this gets bashed on here a lot, but the TWRA needs to step up and change the bag limits in COUNTIES of the state to better suit the populations. There is no reason here in East TN(Washington/Sullivan/Carter/Unicoi) that we should be allowed to kill as many deer as they currently allow us to. It makes no sense. Drop it to 1 buck only(with antler restrictions) for a couple years and then slowly start introducing a doe day here and there as things start to recover. Its not rocket science and has been done in many other places, many of which have recovered and have a healthy population now. I have heard several locals say that In the big whigs eyes, the state of TN ends at Knoxville when going east. Maybe there is more truth to that statement than we let on. Otherwise, if you are in charge of "managing" a statewide population, someone is asleep at the wheel. If it were overpopulated and too many car collisions and crops being damaged, then they would change something. But since there arent money related issues involved, things remain out of site out of mind.
