How can you tell? I think I see the tail, but other than that I don't see anything definitive

Re: What is this? (Bobcat?)

You know it is photos like these that prompted me to join this forum.

People have cited the white on the back of the ears, but it's not that there's white, it's the placement and volume of the white.

Cougars (which I think you didn't want to ask if this was a photo of) often have a white(ish) lining on the outer, rear ear. Often, however, that will display in photos as a white patch - but far less definitive and quite a bit smaller than what is seen here. Usually you can see blotchy spots on a bobcat, those aren't as obvious here. Granted, the dead give away is when you see a 2-4' tail versus a 4-8" tail... but again, not definitive here.

The biggest indicator on your photo is both the white "lining" around the mouth area (and the bit-too-much-and-bit-too-high white on the ears).

...I'm always hoping for that one photo that has irrefutable evidence :)

I don't care about it's origins nearly as much as FINALLY saying "yup... Houston, we have a winner!" LOL
