Gotta figure this out. There is something in my yard that apparently comes out in cold weather and only lasts a couple days. Deer simply cannot leave it alone.

For five days, every night, I have had deer in my FRONT yard. They come within five feet of the house and ignore any car that may pass by. They eat as if there is no tomorrow.

Yesterday, at 2:25 in the afternoon, I had a doe and button buck in the yard and they did not even raise their heads when the lady delivered the mail. She was within 20-feet of the button.

The colder the day, the better and I have never seen deer browse with that intensity. Just minutes ago, the dog was barking at three in the backyard.

I must find out what the heck this weed is.

I've noticed deer in sunny fields on real cold mornings. Including this morning. Maybe they are drawn to the heat of the house and eat the greenery that normally doesn't get eaten?
 
Same thing going on in my backyard. There is a 10 acre wheat field about 300 yds behind my house. Since it got cold I've had 4-8 does in backyard just about every morning & evening. I've got a little white dutch clover mixed in with fescue, but can't imagine that there is enough to sustain them for long. Oh, I haven't seen a single deer in the wheat either the past 2 weeks...

Road never salted and they come to the backyard as well. Also, I doubt there is much of a heat factor at 5-degrees in the dark. My house is pretty well insulated. I believe we can rule the heat theory out completely.
