Yesterday I met with rockhound to turkey hunt. Since it would be my last shotgun hunt this fall I decided to leave the bow in the truck and turkey hunt with the shotgun despite the gut feeling that deer would show up. So we are sitting at the edge of a tree line in a field, listening to birds on the roost to decide where to move. To my left I heard the dreaded twigs pop. Looked to see 2 deer staring me down less than 15 yards away. When they spooked there were a total of 6 deer in the field. That's just how it goes.... But I'm glad I did bring the shotgun, cause I couldn't have shot a turkey with a bow as far as I did later that morning. But still, every time you don't have the bow it seems you have a deer very close.
