What goes on the wall?

Some great looking trophy rooms but I am not a fan of the euro mount. Something about looking at eye sockets and nasal cavities. I would rather see the skull cap covered in something like felt or leather than look at a bunch of bleached out skulls. I guess I am purely American in my view of what looks good. JMO.

All but 2 are TN BOW bucks, my biggest ever is a TN buck also, Ohio an Ky are the two randoms. Got 5 shoulder mounts substantially bigger so I can't justify mounting everything lol.

Something that's memorable. And that could be size (antlers), age, or something special about the experience.

believe it or not this is my favorite mount. It was my first deer at 11 years old killed in Franklin co. What makes it so special is my dad was with me on this hunt and he had never killed a deer either and I don't know who was the most excited. Lol all we had to gut it with was a little 2" pocket knife that I still have and carry when I take my son for when he kills his first and we drug it with my dads belt. I wish he was still here with me!!! Great memories

Like I keep saying, EVERY deer MOST of us choose to shoot is a "trophy", just a case of some be more special than others.
I also have some small mounts on my wall, and they are also very special trophies to me.

I have yet to mount one. I always do Euros and pile them up on the fireplace mantle. Mounting one is not out of the question, but it would need to be something particularly unique.

As they say, "different strokes for different folks", and I certainly understand where you're coming from.
Personally, I don't like Euro mounts for anything I kill. All my Euros are simply "pick-ups" where I've found a dead buck, so I do have a few. But all my "harvested" bucks are either traditional American "horn" mounts or full shoulder mounts.

Regarding how we choose to display our "trophy" bucks, it's my opinion that a very unique set of antlers can actually be more fully appreciated (and seen) without the distraction of a full shoulder mount (which also often means the ears are somewhat hiding part of a unique antler feature such as the "sticker" points commonly found near the bases of mature bucks).

I should be getting my first back here very soon. The anticipation is killing me lol.

I like euro mounts so I'd be happy to euro anything I kill up to 145" if I had to (or just depending on antler quality I guess.. As in not all deer score as big as they are and vice versa). I can afford to do one mount a year so most likely I will not euro many in my lifetime as I doubt I ever kill two in a year anyways. Also if I ever find a Boone and Crockett deadhead in TN I will mount it. I am determined to get my hands on my own TN B&C and honestly could not care a bit if I kill it or find it. To have that caliber of antlers would be worth every penny of a shoulder mount to me

From now on any animal my daughter decides to take for a ride will go on the wall!



Plus at 20lbs she makes any set of antlers look like B&C class! My grandfather killed this 9pt the day before she was born, so after I finished the mount I decided it was only fitting to take her picture with it and present it to him as a gift. Once again, another prime example of a trophy without consideration to the antler score. Now all he talks about his taking her hunting.

I only have 3 on the wall, with one in the freezer i need to get to the taxidermist. My first was my first buck, a 4 point, killed it when i was 20 i think, then a 8 point in 2006 and a 10 point in 2007, so now i have another 8 i killed last november, so i dont mount a whole lot, cant afford it

As much as I would like to get a shoulder mount done on several creatures....the only thing that I got shoulder mounted was a caribou from alaska....and ended up taking the antlers off and it is a plaque mount, why, space. The only other mount we have done is my son's first buck, I wanted him to remember it....and when we went to Hawaii and put it in storage...big mistake...the mice got at the nose, so we have to get it fixed....any recommendations?

I have a nice bull moose.....53" wide....can you imagine that shoulder mount, I can, not to mention with the military lifestyle of constantly moving...more chance at it getting damaged. My wife enjoys the European mounts, so that is what we do...they take up a lot less space. I have 4 black bear, one that is a rug and three that are just tanned. I have a beautiful female wolf and red fox, same, just got them tanned. Now that we believe we are at our final destination, just maybe a mount could be in the works....but I still think for me it would have to be at least a 4.5yr old to do so.

I know there are many of you that will only mount a buck that is bigger than what you already have on the wall. I feel sorry for you if your first mountable deer was a monster. I don't really understand this unless it's an economic choice. I love to look at my wall of fame and replay the hunts. What's your criteria for mounting a buck and why?

I have mounted already a 132in 9pt killed with my rifle and a 142in 10pt killed with my muzzleloader. I am really hoping to kill something nice with my bow to complete the trifecta. If I happen to kill another deer with a gun near the size of the 10pt, I may mount it but it would have to mean something to me other than just horn size.
