What do you swab with between shots?

Just as it states, what do you use?

I have always used windex, dry patch and a touch of bore butter. Novice in the ways of ML...I can get mine to shoot and when I shoot a deer its dead but eventually I'm gonna play with it some and try and adjust for better shooting (maybe encore smokeless conversion) and for sure different bullet. Currently shooting a 300 grain shockwave.

ditch the bore butter and use a quality rust prevention oil. birchwood casey, Montana xtreme make some great rust preventatives.

I don't have to swab between shots.I can shoot 5 hornady FPB bullets that gives me 1.5inch groups before I need to swab.And I only swab then because accuracy starts to open up,they load easy as pie. But when I do swab,I take a metal bore brush,dip it in black off,or windex,and run it down the barrel a few times and then keep swabing with clean swabs until they come out clean.

Nothing. I'm shooting buckhorn and don't see the need. I also didn't swab between shots when using 777 until about the 7th shot or so, had my gun sighted in with a dirty barrel so I didn't have to swab between shots when hunting. Groups are tight so didn't see a need.

I guess the windex will do. Don't understand the purpose of the bore butter though.

Black powder residue as well as most of the substitutes are water solubule. Water will clean it ok but a little dish washing detergent will help. Thats all you really need.

Other cleaning solutions include ballistol and water. Ballistol oil mixes readily with water and makes an excellent in between shot cleaner.

I've heard some use regular auto winshield washer cleaner.

One that I have used and found very effective is equal parts murphy wood soap, 3% hydrogen peroxide, and plan old rubbing alcohol.

If you have a wooden stock you might want to protect the stock with the last two because of the alcohol content.

My first and second shot are on the money starting from a clean bore. That is the condition when heading to hunt. I don't like to leave any of my guns dirty. So when I shoot it clean i know where it is gonna hit. My gun tightens up after 3 or 4 shots. It raises about a inch after every shot. I can kill 4 deer and not wory about cleaning in between. The trick is finding a good bullet that shoots well without the need to clean between loads.

I use plan water wet patch then a dry patch when siteing in when finished I will achole to dry out the water a good dry patch. Befor putting up use bore butter, will clean out the butter befor reloading. I suppose any of the methodes will do as long as it makes you fell good and cleans the gun.

I use BH209 powder and don't swab until the end of the day at the range or after everytime I shoot a deer during the season. Otherwise I will unload my gun and clean when the season is complete.

SHopson's got it right! I keep a stack of clean dry patches near by. After a shot, I put a patch in my mouth, squeeze it with my tongue, then use it to swab the bore. Good enough for Davy Crocket, good enough for me!

I shoot 777 pellets, 150 grains, and platinum powerbelts and I never do anything between shots and I can shoot hundreds of times without cleaning of any kind (I will pull out breech plug, super easy with my accura, a little tougher with my maghunter and clean it) and it still holds accuracy out to 200 yards and loads easy.

I use black horn and I just swab with a dry patch after every shot... Even though they say you dont have to, I still do.

Swab with hoppes after every four shots and dry patches till its dry.

I use a homemade solution of 50% Murphys Oil Soap 50% Rubbing Alcohol, try it cause it does work. I got this from a fellow at the range that shoots competition at ranges of 500 yrds. I started using this and have never used nothing else. I use this to clean with not really between shots but maybe every 3 shots.

Quigley, because I don't have to clean it. I hunt with all my rifles and muzzleloaders with a fouled barrel. Almost all of mine shoot to a different zero out of a clean barrel. You are welcome to look at the barrels of my 2 45 caliber muzzleloaders, they both look like brand new.
