What do you do with dogs running deer on your property?

What do you do when a neighbor's mutts are left out 24/7 and run deer off your property? The neighbor can not be talked to about it without them becoming defensive and knowing it won't do any good. The dogs are also aggressive towards my guests. I don't want to piss off the owner due to retribution. I'm only on the property infrequently and have a small cabin on it. Very frustrating.

I wouldn't shoot a dog for running off wildlife…but when it comes to messin with guests and others….bang!

They are 2 big grungy looking mutts. Nothing you'd want to cozy up to in the house. They run the deer and turkeys clean out for miles.

Unfortunately pet owners that don't contain their animals to their property are the problem. They think it's ok for them to run over others places which is just disrespectful and the animals are the ones that pay the price. Those type people are unreasonable and can't be talked to so your left with SSS.

Can't em in foot hole trap and then they can limp home with a swelled up sore foot when you let them go. If you catch em again well…

People should keep their dogs up period, if something were to happen to somebody on your property because of those dogs you would/could get sued I bet. With 2 SSS could be tough,
You said they were aggressive towards your guests so I'd call the sheriff asap and make your case. I'd ask him were you stood legally and proceed as told. I wouldn't put up with it. Somebody else's dog isn't coming on my property and giving me a hard time.

The dogs deserve a better owner. Not their fault, but aggression towards you or guests shouldn't be tolerated.

I had this. problem and my farm about 7 years ago. I mentioned it to the owners of the 2 hounds and they said they would try to contain them. The next year I shot 1 of them and missed the other. After that day I never saw the remaining dog again.

My rule is never complain to the owner because they will blame you when it doesn't come home. There isn't anything to them to start with because they KNOW they let their dogs do that. If you have already complained to them then law enforcement is your best bet at that point.

We have stray dogs dumped about every 4-6 months, pitbulls running loose. Dogs are a common problem for property owners and its one of the main reasons i carry a firearm.

That's good advice. I shot a German Shepherd in the street right in front of the owner's house. It was quite the legal ordeal but i will do it again tomorrow if i'm attacked and feel threatened.

That would be my choice also. If the dogs are not restrained, you do what needs to be done.

If they are coming aggressively towards you, you could hit them with some bear spray. It not only will affect the dogs, but anyone (owner) that gets around them.

I will turn Max loose on any aggressive dogs that come on our property, they won't fare well.

If we didn't have livestock guardian dogs, I would catch the bad dogs and haul them off to the nearest pound.

Bash in its skull with a bat, throw it in the road. Dogs that run free get hit by cars occasionally.
