after many hrs in the stand I got a shooter in my shooting lane this morning. Yes I royally missed up. The deer was 100/120 yards. At the shot he arch his back and jump straight up then went forward into a thicket. I found no sign of a hit at the point he was standing, no hair or blood. about 30 yards into the thicket I found bright red blood for a distance of 35/45 yards it was very minimal. A drop here and there then nothing. I combed the area back and forth to a small creek. I walked the entire length of the creek bank and never found any sign of blood. I also walked the two rds on either side of where i shot him hoping to pick up a blood trail with no luck. He had to cross one of the rds or the creek. I check my gun and found it was shooting straight but 3 inches low at 85 yards. I had it sighted in at one inch high at 100yrds prior to season. I feel, like I may have hit him in the lower part of the front leg but his reaction wasn't what I'd expect for a leg hit. I Know its nothing but a guessing game now but what do y'all think? I am very picky about the deer I shoot on this 75 acres. I know from his body he was at least 3.5 but very likely a 4.5 heavy horned 8 point I had on cam only one time this year. I highly doubt if he's not dead he will return to the area this year at least not during day light hrs but I am hope he's still alive somewhere. i am disappointed to say the least
UPDATE:
Got a call from my neighbor he say the buck in the corn field with 3 does this evening. Said he was limbing really bad in his front leg but seemed to be doing ok. I drove up and saw him, he was on the adjoining farm that I don't have permission to hunt, I did however get a good look him and he will not score much but is definitely 4.5. Hope to get a secound chance at him but I am just glad he is still alive.
