Maybe thunder??? I've shot at and missed deer with a muzzle loader and they pay absolutely no attention to it whatsoever. I had a 9pt at 25yds one time years ago and got big eyes and missed him, he never stopped walking up the trail he was on. He was just slowly strolling thru the woods.I was able to get the gun loaded again and kill him at about 110yds. One time I had a bunch of does and shot one, the others just watched as if they were deaf. I missed a 6pt with a 45 sidelock/maxiball at around 70 yards and when the smoke cleared he was still standing in the scrape he was working. He just stood there then walked away.

Ive noticed over the years the same exact thing. I once took out a family of 4 does sitting not 25 yards from where they were reloading on the fly with a MZ and they did not seem to care about the report or the fact I was there.

Listening to other hunters around me that are say 75 to 100 yards away on another hillside a Rifle has a distinctive "crack" for lack of a better word for its report. Where a MZ has sort of a bellow to its sound.

Definitely had that happen last year on that 130" 10 pt! The buck and doe he was trailing, both jumped a little and skirted about 10 yds each, then started making their way back toward each other, giving me time to reload and make the second shot count. Hangfire on the first shot btw.

The first deer I ever shot I missed due to excitement. I kneeled down and reloaded watching it the entire time. Then I calmly bowled it over at 30 yards. [emoji2]
