What do pods do?

I figure I am the only person alive that doesn't know the answer to this but.....

What do these do?
Increase the weight capacity of the boat?
Make it more stable?

Just curious.

My understanding is that they provide more flotation support for the rear stern of the boat, seeing as though that is where most of the weight is (due to motor)??? Helps the boat float more flat, easier to get on plane and helps in skinny water because the motor is raised?? This is all my interpretation seeing as though I do not own a boat :)

make it more stable and increase buoyancy are the main reasons.
reduces how far the transom of the boat sits in the water helping to compensate for the weight of the outboard and batteries.
ive heard it helps getting on plane and a faster hole shot, but i "don't" know about that.

I made some last year for my boat but didn't install them after I redistributed the weight in my boat, I got the dimensions off beavertail website and I believe I made the medium size pods but when I get home this evening I'll take some pictures of them

These are the ones I made, after about what seemed like forever to Tig them I finally got them done and they were water tight

Thanks, if anyone plans on trying their hand at making some just shoot me a pm and I'll let you know how I made them with less welding, and the drain plug hole is separate piece about 2" long so that way it gave me some room for errors on cutting and bending trying to get the sides worked out but all I did was make a template of the pod and then folded it into shape to use as my visual reference, I'll see if I can post a picture of my template

The "B" is the bottom of the pod and I just folded the sides up but the hardest is getting the top folded over as needed and the seams where it was folded may or may not crack but if they do all I did was run my tig torch over them to smooth them back out or you can add filler as needed
