What are you setting up on this weekend - acorns, minerals, food plots or something else?

I'm gonna hunt a mineral lick that the deer just can't seem to stay off of in the morning and then a good looking clover plot in the afternoon - Assuming I have the right winds of course.
 
Creek bottom... many trails near dense bedding cover and also soybeans. Unfortunately I have to come in through the soybeans, but that leaves lots of bedding areas untouched so maybe something will come through.

If the wind is right I will be setting over a old logging road leading into a funnel that cuts through about an acre clear cut with a food plot on the other side. Also have a salt block off the old road they have been hitting decently hard. Its a pain getting to without walking through food plot or funnel but maybe it will be worth it.
 
Where an old logging trail opens up into a CRP field most likely. However is I get the right wind I may hunt a trail leading to 30 acres of corn.
 






Hunting certain trees is fine in my area except when food is so plentiful. My area is littered with corn and beans and until they are harvested, I prefer to hunt thick areas with lots of sign like trails and rubs.

I'm not hunting deer, but instead I am hunting a good buck, so my location is more toward thick areas where few people, if any, go. This area is not hunted and has not been hunted for quite a few years.

The woods is like a finger between a corn field and a bean field that is littered with oaks and cane thickets. More trails worn down than you can count and very close to the Hatchie Refuge line, on the backside that is only accessible from private land. Well, not exactly "inaccessible" if you care to walk about a mile through the woods...

In the picture you may notice some cane. Back to the right it gets a lot more caney and thicker. Some of it I didn't even try to walk in to for multiple reasons.

The clearing that you see is a huge corn field on the Refuge...back behind me about 30 yards is the bean field.

I will hunt this in the evenings only until the rut gets closer and the bucks start roaming. I'm really looking forward to hunting this area during the early rut.....then I will be in this stand well before daylight until dark thirty.

I was not allowed in this area the past two years, but now have permission....should be fun!

I'll be "setting up" on set-ups. I'll be moving stands just after daylight Saturday morning (I don't bow hunt anymore).
 
I am watching the winds closely before final determination but I am leaning towards a tight ridge line that has a very dense stand of mature oaks that are already dropping like crazy. I got a good tree just off the crest of the ridge and I am hoping something walks by!
 
I'll be posted up on an old logging road that is on a steep rocky incline. The road comes out of a large thicket. Heavy, heavy traffic on the road. So we'll see. Now of the wind is wrong then I'll be sitting on a stand of oaks that border a field.
 
A large flat topped ridge full of acorns with pine thickets on either side. Hopefully they will decide to pop out for a bite early in the morning
 
Creek bottom with a lot of oaks and some other browse that is near a bean field that was planted late, so it is still quite green. This should be a pretty good stand for me this year. Moved it there early summer and have left it alone. I have gone in once every couple weeks to pull a camera card. Have one really nice buck and several smaller ones using the area. Looking for my first bow killed buck to come from here.
 
The couch. I am not ready to hunt. We just moved, oldest daughter just started kindergarten, and I have not scouted anything. Sometimes life just gets in the way.
 
Soybean field or clover field Saturday afternoon, dependant on activity to both this week. My daughter will be the shooter though. May take my bow and try to double with her, I think that would be a memory.
 
Homcoming at Maryville College. Its been 35 years since I graduated and its time to see some old friends. But some where in my mind I will will be thinking about all those deer in the woods and when I will get my crack at them. Good hunting to all of you!
