what are these

i scouted an area after work today and found thousands of these in anout a 30 yard circle but could not find the tree, do deer eat them?

Looks very similar to what I found yesterday as well. As a matter of fact I was going to post picture and ask same question. Only difference is ones I found are a little bigger, about the size of a marble. Are those hard like a nut, the ones I found are. I did find 1 pile of deer droppings close by so I am kind of assuming they are eating them. I thought maybe beech nuts but am not sure. I am hunting Scott County and these were the only thing I found on the ground, could not find a single acorn anywhere on the ground.

pcrc, i also found some droppings near by but looked a lil old but there were some acorns in the area as well. they were a lil hard to the touch.

Not beechnuts. Look a little like wild strawberries but not much. Could be hominy that hasn't ripened yet.

Hominy is corn so that's just wrong but I have no idea what you've found. Personally I wouldnt spend my time hunting the area because I found them.

Could be hominy that hasn't ripened yet.

That didn't look like a hominy tree to me. Probably dingleberries.

I'm pretty sure that is Funks G-Hybrid homminy. It just isn't ripe. I'll bet there is a homminy tree somewhere.

Yeah, your probably right. They [homminy trees] grow real close to muscadine trees.
