Looks like a black walnut and no. Bt if you get the walnut out, dry it,and crack it with a hammer, you can eat it.

If you can break it open and rub it all over yourself it makes you invisable to a deers nose. Best scent killer ever! Don't worry the stain will just wash right off :blush:

that is a black walnut and no a deer couldn't even begin to crack the shell. My homemade stand is near a walnut and sometimes the squirrels are cutting them making a lot of noise. I love the smell of black walnuts when the hulls are still green like that.

Yes, told the story already, I used a hammer to get them out of the husk, My Dad sure loved walnuts. I was messed up bad.

I was laughing very hard as I read the posts trying to get you to open them up or use as camo. That color, looks like black ink turns blue.....stains for like 3 weeks. Its permanent on clothes.

tried this one time, let them cure 4 weeks, they smelled just as weird as they did when fresh, taste weird, I dont like em. Prefer hickory nuts to almost anything else in the woods.

I ate a Persimmon from Buck Wild's lease last week and it tasted fine, but I tried one at Hatchie today and phew.... not ready yet!

when I see em on the ground and they are orange or purplish, and very soft, they seem to be ready.
