My buddy and i paired up today to hit the yotes again. Went to a new farm where the farmer had lost 3 calves in the last month. Walking in we saw several piles of scat with calf hair in it so it was looking promising of catching some in there. My buddy had already checked out airial photos and had us a spot picked out for the wind. We set up the decoy and and sat down and got started. My buddy let out a few howls and turned on the Foxpro a few mins later. As i was scanning back towards the woods i see a yote standing there lookin at the decoy. I whispered to my buddy that we had one so he turned off the caller. The yote walked in a little closer and sat down. My buddies view was blocked and he couldnt see it. He was carrying his new SKS really wanting to break it in, so being the good buddy i am(and since i shot the last one and hes drug my butt all over east Tn hunting his spots) i sat still waiting to see if the yote would come on in and offer him a shot. I was also hoping he had company working back in the woods. After the game of walk a little and sit down, the yote finally broke loose and circled in behind the decoy. It stopped and sat down again directly behind the decoy but before my buddy could fire, something caught its attention and it spun and took off. My buddy fired a shot and then it was off to the races. I fired a shot and saw the dirt fly right behind its belly, i had to have just barely missed. Would have loved to pull off a running shot to make myself look good. My buddy fires another warning shot and the yote is gone. Make a few more dry stands and are working our way through a field to the next spot when he spots a yote and tells me to get down. It spotted me when i hit the deck and came to a stop. I knew he already had his gun up so i waited on him to fire when i heard the awful click come from his gun, round didnt fire. Well i get my scope lined up on him, still standing there looking at us, and let one go. MISS! My buddy fires another warning shot and i swear as the yote was running off i saw him turn around and laugh at us. I couldnt believe i missed. Well it wasnt the easiest shot, about 160-170 yds on my knees off hand. I know excuses, excuses. Well thats all i got. Tried one more stand after that but the rain set in on us pretty good so we called it a day. Oh well felt good to get to fire the big guns for a change.
