I was thinking about the CWD affecting western part of TN when I hunted Presidents Island this year. Has there ever been a positive case on Presidents Island?

Was that a stupid question or something? Has CWD on Presidents Island been discussed in another thread? If so, I guess I missed it. The buck I killed last year tested negative. Just wondering can you answer the question with a yes or no?
You don't have to worry about it for another 14 yrs or so.

I have to ask what does it matter to you? You won't get drawn for a looonnnggg time again. But what if the answer is yes? Then what?

Zooming in on the prevalence map, you can see that the island is included in the CWD zone, but you cant see any dots there. So from this I guess the answer would be no...doesnt appear there have been any test positive...good luck on your hunt this year....buddy and I both have enough points to draw and will probably put in this year.
One historical dot (bigger light blue circle) is relatively close to PI (southwest portion of Shelby County) but I cannot find the original yearly dot that ties that location to an actual positive in prior years, so I am suspect of a true CWD positive near PI. With that said, I suspect the sample size (# of deer submitted for testing per acre of PI) has been pretty low over last 5-7 years, for the 7,000 acres. I'd also expect the higher prevalence rates to be eastern Shelby county, near Fayette county, as the current map shows.

I sent a message to the PI Area Manager that has presided over the hunt for the last 10-15 years. Awaiting an official response.

I killed the first cwd positive deer in shelby county back in nov 2019. It was very close to the eastern border. Most cases are prevalent on the eastern side.
It actually took a while to get shelby county to turn cwd positive and was overall a relief when shelby county became a cwd positive county.
A vast majority of hunters, taxidermist and deer processing are located inside shelby county and hunt neighboring counties. The regulations were preventing deer from outside surrounding counties to be brought into shelby county.
It definitely made things easier for everyone not trying to smuggle deer across county lines.
OP - The first positive from PI was detected between July 1, 2024 and June 30, 2025. Lower left blue dot illustrates it on the map. All information below provided by TWRA.

Valid question. I'm on the verge of getting a draw for PI. Wondering if it would hurt to wait any longer knowing CWD might have an impact.
TN has reach of USDA helicopters, pilots, and thermals, and yes the do work in TN. I only know of wild hog eradication, personally. I heard of talks in TN - CWD areas for deer but have zero confirmation on any contracts with deer.
