My youngest son is trying to get the super slam in turkey hunting. I'm not a big turkey hunter but I sure was glad to be able to help him check off another state. A good friend of mine owns a 10k acre ranch in West Texas. He offered us to come out and turkey hunt and to shoot some wild pigs.
We left out Wednesday night around 9pm and drove all night. Arrived at his ranch about 1:30pm Thursday. Unloaded the truck and sitting there relaxing when my son said that he was going hunting.
An hour and a half later he was walking back up to the cabin with a long beard across his shoulder.
We hung out the rest of the afternoon and took a tour of the ranch.
Friday morning he goes after the turkey again and my friend and I go after the pigs. I shot one but that one got away. A few minutes later another showed up and I smoked and big old boar.
Fast forward to around 9:30-10am Friday morning and we go to get my son and he had taken his second turkey. He also had a close encounter with a western diamondback.
My day to hunt was today and we woke up to the temps dropping 35* overnight. Storms and high winds moved in and we waited until 830 this morning to even try to hunt. Heard 1 gobble but could never pinpoint exactly where he was.
West Texas was still a success. 2 Rios, 2 pigs, and 2 rattlers.
Great weekend with my youngest son.
