Ok I'm fixing to send off my soil sample or rock sample is more like it..You have to check what you want to plant. So my question is what have you guys had the best luck with growing in the Stewart or West Tennessee soil....without breaking the bank?
 
Upland or bottomland soil? And as tn_droptine asked, summer or fall plots or both? Perennials or annuals?
 
Fall planting after turkey season. We have 6 plots average 2 acres each. Upland soil I would say a mix of Perennials and annuals.....Being 5 hours from any of us so we need the least maintenance.....
 
Since you are planning a mix of perennials and annuals for a fall plot, I would go with perennials of clover (mix of white and crimson) and chicory, and for annuals winter wheat and austrailian winter peas

I love wheat as it performs nicely in the poor wayne county soil and the deer hammer it.......i cant imagine you not being able to do well with it.....mix in some ladino clover and you have a very good plot! :cool:
 
Being that there are alot of turkey hunters in our group I have to also plant for them. Some of the guys are also wanting to plant corn in some plots earlier in the season any recommendations to what type for least maintenance? I would really like to mix the plots up for better nutritional value for the herd...
 
if you don't have time for maintenance I would go with annuals. Perennials are great but take some work during the summer and you would be throwing away your money and time if you don't mow and spray at least once per year.
